Head of IT / IT Director

Position Overview

The Head of IT / IT Director is responsible for leading the organisation’s overall technology strategy, IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital transformation initiatives. This role oversees the design, implementation, and support of all technology systems, ensuring they align with business objectives, enable growth, and maintain high levels of security, reliability, and performance.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s IT strategy in alignment with business goals.

  • Lead the digital transformation roadmap, identifying opportunities for automation, modernization, and innovation.

  • Provide strategic guidance to senior management on emerging technologies and industry best practices.

IT Operations & Infrastructure

  • Oversee all IT operations, including network management, data centers, cloud services, and end-user computing.

  • Ensure IT systems are secure, scalable, and performing efficiently.

  • Develop IT policies, procedures, and standards for system availability, continuity, and performance.

  • Manage IT vendors, contracts, and service-level agreements (SLAs).

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Establish a strong cybersecurity framework across the organisation.

  • Implement and monitor security policies, disaster recovery plans, and risk management strategies.

  • Conduct regular security audits and ensure regulatory compliance (ISO, GDPR, PCI, etc., depending on organisation).

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop IT teams including infrastructure, support, applications, and security.

  • Create a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous learning.

  • Oversee resource planning, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Application & Systems Management

  • Oversee development, implementation, and maintenance of business applications (ERP, CRM, HRIS, etc.).

  • Ensure integration across systems for efficient data flow and business processes.

  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies that improve operations.

Budget & Cost Management

  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost optimisation.

  • Forecast future technology needs and investment opportunities.

  • Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving initiatives.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership/management role.

  • Strong experience with IT infrastructure, cloud technologies (Azure/AWS), cybersecurity, and enterprise applications.

  • Proven experience managing IT teams and large-scale projects.

  • Strong understanding of IT governance frameworks (ITIL, COBIT).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical understanding.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in digital transformation and change management.

  • Industry certifications: ITIL, CISSP, CISM, PMP, Azure/AWS certifications.
